As expected, David Blatt will replace Pini Gershon in the bench of Maccabi Tel Aviv. The American-Israeli coach has reached to an agreement with the club to take over the Israeli team. The deal is expected to be official in a few days. Blatt, who is also the head coach of the Russian national team, and coached last year with Aris Thessaloniki, already worked for Maccabi between 2000 and 2004.

As expected, Pini Gershon was appointed as the new manager of Maccabi Tel Aviv, stepping down from his head coach duties. Gershon was in charge of Maccabi since 2008 in his third stint in the Israeli club, and led the team to three Euroleagues in 2001 (Suproleague), 2004 and 2005. His replacement in the bench could be David Blatt.

Pini Gershon has expressed to the board of Maccabi Tel Aviv his desire of leaving the head coach duties to become the new team manager. In that case, the Israeli team has Blatt as the top candidate to replace Gershon, who could also decide to leave the club. Blatt, also coach of the Russian national team, was in charge of Aris Thessaloniki last season.

The Israeli powerhouse is considering several candidates to replace him, starting from Gershon's assistant, Sharon Drucker. Another possible head coaches for Maccabi are Guy Goodes (who could leave his job in Hapoel Jerusalem), Oded Katash (now in Galil Gilboa) and Dan Shamir (Bnei Hasharon)
